What is an End of Life Doula?

End of Life Doulas provide assistance to individuals and their families at the end of life. We educate, advocate, create a comfortable space for the dying, assist in completing advance directives and facilitate end of life planning. We provide emotional support, accompany the dying, guide life review,  offer comfort measures and facilitate family communication. Some EOL Doulas are also trained as Home Funeral Guides.

There are multiple names for this kind of work. Death doulas, death midwives, and end of life guides are other common titles.

Many EOL Doulas also have other jobs and skills.  I draw from my social work knowledge and experiences but my role as an End of Life Doula is separate from my role as a therapist.

Below are some videos and articles on what an End of Life Doula does. These are meant for general reference, each EOL Doula has their own services and approach to providing services.
